## Statement from Fintra National School Board of Management 27th May 2026

Having contacted Bishop Niall Coll, the School Patron, regarding the closure of the school, the Bishop subsequently contacted the Department of Education and Youth seeking the permanent closure of the school at the end of the current academic year (August 2026).

In order to implement the closure of the school, the Department has furnished the Patron and the Board of Management with a school closure checklist, which is being implemented.

The School Gym will be open on

Thursday 11th June from 1.00pm to 3.00pm

where there will be a display of school roll books, photographs and school memorabilia.

Light refreshments will be served.

All are welcome to attend.

## Entrance Hymn: Faithful is the Lord our King

Faithful is the Lord, our King.

Let us all in glory sing.

Ever praise in song and word:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord!

Holy Father, God of might,

Throned amid the hosts of light;

Take our life, our strength, our love;

King of earth and heav'n above. (Chorus)

Christ, be near at either hand,

Christ, behind, before me stand;

Christ, with me where e'er I go;

Christ, around, above, below. (Chorus)

## Final Hymn: Colours of Day

Colours of day dawn into the mind.

The sun has come up the night is behind.

Go down to the city, into the street,

And let's give the message

to the people we meet.

Chorus: So light up the fire and let the flame burn,

Open the door, let Jesus return,

Take seeds of his Spirit, let the fruit grow,

ell the people of Jesus, let his love show.

Open your eyes, look into the sky,

The darkness has come,

The sun came to die.

The evening draws on, the sun disappears,

But Jesus is living, and his Spirit is near. (Chorus)

Prayer before an examination: Dear Lord, as I take this exam, I thank you that my value is not based on my performance, but on your great love for me. Come into my heart so that we can walk through this time together. Help me, not only with this test, but the many tests of life that are sure to come my way. As I take this exam, bring back to my mind everything I studied and be gracious with what I have overlooked. Help me to remain focussed and calm, confident in the facts and in my ability, and firm in the knowledge that no matter what happens today you are there with me. Amen.

DOMHNACH NA TRÍONÓIDE A

AN CHÉAD LÉACHT

Sliocht as leabhar Exodus

34:4-6, 8-9.

Go luath ar maidin chuaigh Maois go Sliabh Sínai agus dhá leac cloiche leis ina lámha mar a d'ordaigh an Tiarna dó. Tháinig an Tiarna anuas i bhfoirm néil agus sheasaigh Maois ansin ina chuideachta. Ghlaoigh sé ar ainm an Tiarna. Chuaigh an Tiarna thart os a chomhair agus d'fhógair sé: "A Thiarna, a Thiarna, Dia na cinéaltachta agus na trócaire, is mall é chun feirge, lán de chinéaltas agus de dhilseacht." Shléacht Maois go talamh láithreach agus dúirt: "Má fuair mé gnaoi i do láthair, a Thiarna, tagadh mo Thiarna in éineacht linn, achainím ort. Is fíor gur pobal ceanndána iad, ach maith dúinn ár lochtanna agus ár bpeacaí agus glac linn mar d'oidhreacht."

" Briathar an Tiarna.

FR. Buíochas do Dhia.

FREAGRA AN tSAILM

Glóir agus moladh duit de shíor.

AN DARA LÉACHT

Sliocht as dara litir Naomh Pól chuig na Coirintigh.

13:11-13.

Slán agus beannacht agaibh, a bhráithre. Cuirigí dea-eagar ar bhur mbeatha. Bígí ar aon intinn agus i síocháin le chéile, agus beidh Dia na síochána agus an ghrá ag cuidiú libh. Tugaigí póg an mhuintearais dá chéile. Cuireann na Críostaithe uilig a mbeannacht chugaibh. Grásta ár dTiarna Íosa Críost agus grá Dé agus cumann an Spioraid Naoimh libh go léir.

Briathar an Tiarna.

FR. Buíochas do Dhia.

ALLELUIA

Alleluia, alleluia!

Gloir don Athair, don Mhac agus don Spiorad Naomh, do Dhia, an té atá, a bhí agus atá le teacht. Alleluia!

SOISCÉAL

Sliocht as an Soiscéal naofa de réir Naomh Eoin.

3:16-18.

San am sin dúirt Íosa le Nícodémas:

"Ghráigh Dia an domhan chomh mór sin

go dtug sé a Aonghin Mhic uaidh i dtreo gach duine a chreideann ann nach gcaillfí é ach go mbeadh an bheatha shíoraí aige. Óir ní chun breithiúnas a thabhairt ar an saol a chuir Dia a Mhac ar an saol ach chun go slánófáí an saol tríd.

An té a chreideann ann ní thabharfar daorbhreith air,

Page 10

ach an té nach gcreideann ann tá daorbhreith tugtha air cheana féin, mar nár chreid sé in ainm Mhic Dé, a Aonghin. FR. Moladh duit, a Chriost.

FÓGRAÍ DON NUACHTLITIR Duine ar bith ar mhaith leo fógra a chur sa nuachtlitir, thig leo a bhfógra a chur chuig tpcr1906@gmail.com roimh an cúig a chlog Dé Céadaoine.

Rúndiamhair an Chreidimh

Gach uair a ithimid an t-arán seo

agus a ólaimid an chailis seo,

fógraimid do bhás, a Thiarna, nó go dtaga tú.

STEP BY STEP THROUGH THE MASS

The Liturgy of the Word (Part 8)

The proclamation of the Gospel at Mass is accompanied by a few small rituals which we can carry out without much thought as to their meaning. Firstly, there is the triple blessing which the priest and people make when the Gospel Writer’s name is announced: “A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John!” These words are accompanied by the tracing of the cross on the forehead, lips and the heart. Firstly, the Sign of the Cross is a sign of blessing; as the cross of Jesus is the source of heavenly blessing and grace for us all. This ritual action is accompanied by the words: “Glory to you, O Lord.” However, it is already a prayer of sorts – an action that symbolises through gestures our desire that the Word of God in the Gospel we are about to hear proclaimed may fill and transform our minds, be eventually proclaimed by our lips and take deep root in our hearts. To signify this the words of response are already our attempt to praise and glorify the Lord. Glory to you, O Lord – that you speak to us, encourage us, challenge us, enlighten us and give us new hope and direction by means of your Gospel.

Our Catholic faith has many prayerful gestures which are meant to communicate what we believe and are meant to express physically something we hold or desire spiritually. The bodily gesture is an outward expression of an interior prayer. It is a bodily prayer, not solely interior and spiritual. When we trace the Cross at this stage in the Mass, we are, in a sense, asking the Lord to take our intellect, our speech and our deepest desires and conform them to his mind, his speech and his loving desires as we hear about in the Gospel. This simple ritual action declares: “Lord, may I understand your Gospel, may I speak your Gospel, may I love and live your Gospel.” While no prayer (outside of the response) accompanies this ritual action, we could well formulate a quiet few words to accompany it; something akin to: “Lord, let this Gospel passage change everything about how I think, how I speak and how I love today.”

Once the Gospel passage has been proclaimed the Priest or Deacon declares: “The Gospel of the Lord”. To which the congregation responds: “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ!” This response, though prescribed in the ritual and, therefore, not spontaneous, is meant to convey the congregations joy and gratitude that God has spoken to them through the word and actions of Jesus that we have just listened to. It should be spoken (or sung) with enthusiasm – so much so that a visitor who had never been at Mass before might conclude that it was a spontaneous outburst by the congregation in response to the Gospel passage they have just heard. It is not meant to be mumbled or spoken under one’s breath. It is meant to be spoken out clearly and decisively by all.

## A Prayer for Exam Students

Lord, pour out Your Spirit of Wisdom on these students:

help them to remain calm, to attend carefully to the questions asked, to think clearly, to remember accurately, and to express themselves well.

Grant that they may reflect on the best of the work they have done and the best of the teaching they have received.

Accept their best efforts in these examinations and in the great test of life on earth. May Your love be upon them, O Lord, as they place all their trust in You.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

## Reflection

'It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.'

This expression, originally used in 1939 by Winston Churchill, is typically used to describe something that is immensely puzzling or too complex to understand. The word 'mystery' is often used in everyday speech. When we can't wrap our heads around something, we shrug and say: 'It's a mystery to me,' or: 'It's another of life's great mysteries. A mystery can never be fully understood, though that does not mean we should stop trying – like Jesus being fully human and fully divine (the incarnation), Jesus' death and resurrection (the Paschal mystery), and three persons in one God (the Trinity). It is this last mystery that we celebrate today.

One of the most poignant attempts to explain the Trinity came from C.S. Lewis, who reasoned that if God is love, then God must contain more than one person: 'God is not a static thing – not even a person – but a dynamic, pulsating activity, a life, almost a kind of drama. Almost, if you will not think me irreverent, a kind of dance.' The idea of the Trinity as a sort of divine dance is a good place to begin reflecting on this great mystery of God as a communion of love. In today's Gospel, we see that Jesus is comfortable with an element of mystery. He does not reveal everything to his disciples at once, as it 'would be too much for you now.' The full truth will be revealed later, when the Spirit comes. The more we reflect, the more we pray, the more we are open to the Spirit, the more we will understand about the great mystery of God as love.

# THE FEAST OF THE HOLY TRINITY;

also called Trinity Sunday, celebrates the central mystery of Christian faith: one God in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Catechism calls the Most Holy Trinity the "central mystery of Christian faith and life," the mystery of God in himself, and the source and light of all the other mysteries of faith. It is not a secondary doctrine for Catholics; it stands at the heart of Christianity because revelation itself is Trinitarian.

The feast highlights that God has revealed himself through salvation history, especially through Jesus Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Scripture shows this clearly in passages such as the baptismal command of Jesus—"baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"—and in Paul's blessing, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." The Trinity is therefore not a puzzle invented by theologians, but a divine mystery made known through revelation.

Catholic teaching also stresses that the Trinity is a mystery beyond full human comprehension, but not contrary to reason. The Church uses the terms "substance" and "person" to explain that God is one in divine being and three in real distinction of Persons. The feast invites believers not just to think about this mystery, but to worship it and live it. Pope Francis described God as communion rather than solitude, saying that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are united in self-giving love.

In the liturgy, the Trinity is expressed constantly, especially in the Eucharist: the Mass ends with a Trinitarian doxology—"Through him, with him, and in him... in the unity of the Holy Spirit"—which gathers Father, Son, and Holy Spirit into one act of praise. So the feast of the Holy Trinity is a celebration of who God is, how God has revealed himself, and how Christians are called to enter into that divine communion through faith, worship, and love.
